I was recently asked about whether a blog was too personal. I didn't think so but what is considered too personal? When do you draw the line on what you post online?
Everyone knows that you don't post your social security number, credit card information and so on but what about the not so obvious. Your thoughts? Feelings? Stories? I've always been told to be careful about what I post because I have a public job. I work in the public eye everyday and have for awhile so where's my line? Can I post what I feel about people I deal with everyday? Or how slow days at work are awful? OR should I just ignore all of those things?
It's almost unfair you know? To have a job you love but have so many restrictions. Don't do this or that because you could be called biased or questioned. Or both.
The girl who asked me the original question had written an amazing poem about her job. Her grandmother told her not to publish it because people could look at it poorly because of her job. I personally don't think there was anything offensive at all. It was beautiful and truly captured the feeling of having a slow day at work. But...I still told her not to publish it. Sure, I thought it was great but I also didn't want her to take the chance. I didn't want it to backfire especially for someone just starting out. If she was more established I would have told her in a heartbeat to publish it. In the long run I suppose we all have to be careful. We all have to watch our backs and not burn any bridges no matter how much we may want to. I guess you could say that I censored her work and maybe there is some truth in that but you may also say that I was just looking out for a friend. And that is how I view it.
So. What's the privacy line? Do you even know?
Let me know what you think the line is because God knows I'm unsure most days.

You can get anything you want online!
Amazon. What do you think when you hear that word? I bet it's not the Amazon Rainforest. I bet it's the popular online store where you can get anything from books to popular food items.
Sure. I'm an avid user of Amazon. I love that I can find presents or things that I can't find in the small town I live in. But it makes me sad that the actual Amazon is lost in the mix. Have you ever looked at pictures? It's gorgeous.
Now what about Ebay? You don't really hear as much about it anymore but I know some avid users. Honestly I've never used it. It always felt weird and kind of creepy. That probably doesn't make much sense since I use Amazon. But I don't think I really need to explain it when you can listen to this: Ebay Parody
I could rant a little more and maybe later I will but...I have stuff to do. So ya. See ya later.

Love and the Internet
Want to find your perfect match? Don't have time to find love the old fashion way? Try (insert popular dating site).
I know you have all seen and heard those commercials for sites like match.com, pof.com, e-harmony.com and many more. Before you get all hot under the collar I'm not calling these things bad but I am being honest.
While I was in college I tried some of these dating sites. I was bored and kind of lonely so I figured why not. The first thing I noticed was the unbearable amount of horn dogs on each site. Each one just wanting a hook up, asking what my bra size was and if they didn't like my answers to their questions that was it. Not even a chance to actually talk. This went on for quite a while but I didn't give hope. I finally met two what I thought were decent enough guys.
Date #1: Went like this. We met on a footbridge and he walked with me to Albertsons so I could buy batteries for a Furby I had just received. He then told me he was homeless and was looking for a place to live. Nope.
Date #2: He was also a college student studying music. We talked a lot online and through text to the point where I was comfortable enough to invite him over. He came to my dorm room and sat on my bed as I sat at my desk. It was awkward and uncomfortable. I eventually had him leave by telling him I had to work on a paper which wasn't a lie. Not 5 min later he texted me and started talking about how nice it was to have a girlfriend. What? We had just met. Nope.
So I've had some relatively bad experience with online dating but I also know a lot of people that have met the loves of their lives on there.
I did meet a guy on Facebook though. He was nice, we had a lot in common, we were living in the same small town and it was great. Sure, he was 10 years older than I was at the time and sure he still lived with his mom but I was 19. We started dating the summer before I started college and then part of my freshman year. We'd Facebook, text and talk on the phone everyday. He made me feel special. He made me feel loved. But then he got jealous. We were 400 some miles apart and he thought he could tell me who I could be friends with. That didn't fly. We tried talking it out but in the end it didn't work.
But I didn't find myself another winner on Facebook. So, I guess you could say I found love on the internet and not the old fashion way.
Stay tuned for more internet adventures!

You Me and the Internet
You and Me probably have nothing in common. We probably aren't friends and have never met. We most likely don't live anywhere near each other. But we do share something: the internet.
You probably found me through a random Google search or stumbled upon this on Twitter. Maybe you thought the name was interesting or you just have a thing for blogs. Doesn't matter to me.
The Internet. World Wide Web. The center of most people's worlds. I'm not any different. At my job and during my free time I spend probably 90% of my time online. It's just the world we live in. I love social media, I love news, I love people, I love gossip and I love sharing it. I love being in the loop.
It brings the saying, "it's a small world," to life. I may not know you and vice versa but I may know your mother's aunt's cousin. Or maybe your best friend from kindergarten. I could be that random barista or bartender that you share your life to everyday or weekend. In this world of the internet I could know everything about you with a few clicks of a mouse. It's kind of scary isn't it? You should really sit back and just ponder that for awhile.
Relax, the internet isn't all bad. It's made so many good things: connections, memes, new ideas... Think of the freedom. Think of what you'd be doing without internet. Not a fun picture, is it? This blog is just me spouting out stories and making you all realized the wonders, dangers and so much more about you, me and the internet.
Goodbye and Goodluck
